South Piedmont mountain, with its bigger town Cuneo, is famous only among locals for its mountains. And this will give you a different approach to the more famous mountains of Aosta Valley or even more in the Dolomites or in Swiss or French Alps. The Alps here are still traditional. People bring out cows lives with agriculture in summer and generally have a pretty tough life. Mountain here still means struggle and in most of the cases hard life, as mass tourism didn't arrive yet. Monviso in summer is pretty busy though, especially from the weekend as in Italy its 3800 meters are recognized everywhere in the northwest. Monviso is called King of Rock and from the Giacoletti hut is maybe the best point from where you can admire after a beautiful hike in between alpine lakes.
