Tour of Thabor with Peak

It is one of the wildest and still untouched mountains of France, which is not easy to find. From Turin, the start of the hike is only one hour's drive and we can visit this beautiful moon-like landscape of the Haute-Alps in France. The hikes in France are a bit different than in Italy. Usually, the hikes are longer and less steep. And this is the case also for the Tour of Thabor. The lodges are located quite far from each other, making the days pretty long. Said so, the steepness of the paths is quite mild. So this is especially good if you have knee problems in going steep downhill.

Tour of Thabor also has the Thabor peak ascent on the second day. With its 3200 meters, Thabor Peak towers the Haute Alps and offers great landscapes. On the tour, we will pass by many lakes and explore different environments: from pine forests to lush meadows of Nevache Valley to the moon-like landscapes of the mountains above 2600 meters. The lodges are all equipped and we need to book a bit in advance as the number of places is limited and is a bit difficult to make variants. Said so, it is always possible, as usual with Trekking Alps, to organize a different way to do also the Tour of Thabor. It is possible to make it longer or shorter. The Thabor peak itself is doable even in one or two days starting from Turin and the original Tour of Thabor can go up to 14 days. In terms of wildlife, we have very good chances to spot marmots and some chances to spot Chamois and Ibex. Also, French Alps are quite famous for Vultures; the Gyps, the biggest birds of the Alps are not rare in this area.
