Wild Winter Snowshoeing

snowshoeing is not possible to decide the target in advance: the local guide have to see what is the snow conditions in the days before the hike. There might be danger of avalanche, of sliding on ice or there could be too much snow to reach the huts described here. Said so it is almost everytime possible to organize a wild adventure in winter. At worst we'll need to use a mountain lodge. In winter snowshoeing you'll need be prepared to extremely cold temperatures(till -25°) and uncomfortable situations. In this specific hike, this wild winter snowshoeing will bring us to reach the Avanzà refuge. A small hut 6 Km and 5 hours of walk far from every human activity. The shelter is a 6-bed hut with a small wooden stove. The refuge is populated by animals also in winter and will be not difficult to see chamois and ibexes. The Avanzà shelter is near the France border. The second night the target will be the Vacca shelter in a neighboring valley. A small cozy hut in the middle of a rocky snowy environment. At this moment for sure you will feel as you will be the only habitat of the World!

Winter Snowshoeing in the Italian Alps: Real Adventure!

The snowshoes here is possible only in certain snow conditions. Especially to reach Pietro Vacca is quite difficult and possible only with experienced people with no fear of the void. In case of not suitable snow conditions, the hike target will be changed in places easier to reach. In particular the Bivacco Orsiera on the other side of the valley. Another option is to reach the San Camillo hut in Viu Valley, or other huts such as Ciargiur Hut still in Orsiera Rocciavrè Natural Park or Noaschetta Hut in Gran Paradiso.
